Abstract
WestRock is a multinational paper and packaging corporation. The Joplin location, between January 2020 to December 2020, has experienced excessive feeder stops on press 1226 due to out-of-spec sheeted stock. From January 2020 to December 2020 press 1226’s feeder stops have averaged 1.63 stops per 10,000 sheets. Using the Six Sigma DMAIC model and associated tools, the objective, by April 30, 2021, is to reduce feeder stops from 1.6. stops per 10,000 sheets to .923. The Goal Formula is a 70% improvement from the baseline toward entitlement (Goal= BL-(BL-Ent)*.7).
The DMAIC model stands for define, measure, analyze, improve, and control. As part of my green belt certification under Dr. Howe, I am leading a team of industry professionals through the first four steps of the DMAIC model. The associated tools are a project charter, affinity diagram, Kano model, operational definitions, data collection plan, Gage R&R, capability six-pack, and Pareto Chart.
The purpose of the research is to identify the root causes of why the feeder stops occur. Discovering the root causes will allow WestRock to identify ways to eliminate the problem and reduce the number of feeder stops.
